The Uptown Ledger is an independent news site about business and neighborhood life in Uptown, on Chicago’s North Side. We cover the stretch from Montrose to Foster and from Clark Street to the lake: the storefronts on Broadway, the restaurants on Argyle, the venues around Broadway and Lawrence, the buildings along Marine Drive and Sheridan Road, and the people who keep all of it running.
We write for people who live, work, own property or run a business here. That means explaining how a property tax bill is built, what a new lease on a corner means for the block, which permits a restaurant needs, and why a decision in Springfield or at City Hall matters on Wilson Avenue.
What we cover
Our sections are Business, People, Neighborhood, Argyle & Dining, Arts & Nightlife, Real Estate and Money. The People section includes our Faces of Uptown profiles of local owners and national figures whose decisions reach the neighborhood.
Older Uptown business stories from past years are kept at their original web addresses so that links from other sites keep working. They describe events as they stood at the time, so check with a business before visiting.
